addiction family therapy

The family is the key to successful recovery from addiction

When it comes to therapy for opioid addiction, family can make all the difference. Hence, addiction family therapy is a great way for you to recover and stay clean. As you can imagine, your sessions with the therapist will involve you and your family.

What is a family?

While you may think the answer is obvious, it is not. Your family can include any people who are close to you. For example, you could consider your close friends and neighbors to be a part of your family. In fact, as noted by family therapist, Bob Coates, a family starts with just a single person! So, your family members do not have to be related to you by blood.

Why is family so important?

One of the most important parts of your program of recovery is building a network of support. This means that you will have people whom you can rely on. So, when you feel like you might use drugs, you will have people to talk to first. People in your support group can bring you back to realize that your life is good without drugs. Having people who are close and whom you can trust is important. Wether or not, your support group includes blood relatives, they can be considered a part of your family.

Where can you build your support group?

Group meetings can be an excellent place to meet people who want to help you to stay clean. There are many excellent groups that support recovery from drugs, including opioids. Otherwise, your church or place of worship can be where you find like minded people who will support your recovery. And don’t forget, there is also your blood related family!

Addiction Family Therapy can be your therapy.

If you are in a Suboxone program, therapy is a requirement. While there are many kinds of therapy, addiction family therapy may be the best choice for you. While a psychologist can help you to overcome addiction, a family therapist brings a whole new dimension to the recovery process. Involving your family in your recovery may be just what you need for long term success.
